Who was Mary Ellen Pleasant, The Cook Who Played The White Role

Ms ChangViews: 458

Mary Ellen Pleasant was a former slave who posed as a white woman in San Francisco, amassed a fortune and fought for the rights of black people. She was born into the evil of white run slavery of black people in 1814 and escaped by leaning on her white daddy's bloodline and enhanced the 50% white attributes she had. It worked well on white folks who never bothered to look deeper. They just assumed she was a tanned white "Georgia Peach" woman who had the magic of culinary crafting.

She gained wealth and eventually spent her time fighting for the rights of black people, and that really upset the white folks. They made efforts to destroy her, and it did until her death in 1904.
